In 2001 we developed a Campus Improvement Plan that recommended a number of improvements for campus spaces, tree care and grounds maintenance procedures. This year W&L called on us to carry out the renovation of four important spaces in the center of the historic Lexington, Virginia campus, including the area directly in front of the Student Commons.
The renovations, which included extensive plantings as well as brick walks, lighting, walls and furnishings, included a careful analysis of not only the historic fabric of the campus but also the resources required to properly maintain the campus landscape. The improvements were intended to establish both design and maintenance standards for future improvements to the rest of the central campus.
