The Details

Tightly confined by commercial and residential neighborhoods, the campus of Washington & Jefferson College was in need of a thorough analysis to preserve its beautiful historic character. Our 1997 Plan assessed the character, condition and maintenance of all outdoor spaces and evaluated the condition of the major trees.

The major recommendations of the Plan included new campus entrances, the redesign of the center of campus, reconfigured campus edges, improved parking and a detailed tree management and replacement plan. The first projects resulting from the Plan have been the planting of over 300 shade trees along the perimeter roads surrounding the campus, major work to preserve the historic trees in the center of campus and a new entrance wall at the main approach to the campus.

We are currently working on an updated Campus Improvement Plan, expected to be complete in 2008.
