Founded in 1847 as one of the nation’s first rural cemeteries, Hollywood commissioned us in 1995 to develop their first Master Plan. More recently, we updated the Plan, incorporating new burial spaces, preserving historic assets and more efficiently managing the landscape. The Master Plan is intended to sustain Hollywood as an active cemetery for generations to come.
Having only a small number of traditional in-ground burial spaces remaining, the Cemetery needed to explore more innovative burial opportunities. While reinforcing the original rural plan of the Cemetery, the Update provides over 10,000 new burial spaces in burial walks, cremation walls, edges and slopes. We are currently working on a plan to renovate Presidents Circle, where James Monroe and John Tyler are buried. |
