The Details

Located on a rolling, historic campus on the western edge of Greensboro, North Carolina, Guilford has begun an ambitious program to expand its student population by one third, to 3,300 students. The College asked us to help them determine how to accommodate this growth while respecting the unique character and Quaker heritage of the institution.

After carefully analyzing the campus, we led the planning team through a process which determined the type and number of new facilities needed as well as where they should be located. During this process, the team also identified a number of existing facilities which could be upgraded to help accommodate growth. A crucial component of the entire Master Plan was the maintenance and reinforcement of the sense of campus community so important to Quaker values.

Among the principal recommendations of the master plan was the decision to consolidate most of the school’s athletic facilities on the north side of the campus but leave the Field House and the football stadium in the historic core, revamping the stadium to serve as a game facility for all field sports.
