UNIVERSITY OF DAYTON - CENTRAL MALL Intended to be the pride of the campus for the next 100 years, our design for the just-finished Central Mall at the University of Dayton is already proving wildly popular. The Central Mall is an expansive park, a venue for special events and an arboretum featuring native trees and shrubs. HOLLYWOOD CEMETERY - PRESIDENTS CIRCLE Our design for Presidents Circle (burial place of James Monroe and John Tyler) has been constructed to accommodate 1000 new niche burials. Visitors enjoy cobbled walkways, a new tree canopy and a design that perfectly complements its historic setting. SHENNANDOAH UNIVERSITY - SARAH'S GLEN The University asked us to design a memorial garden in a highly visible but underutilized part of the campus next to a stormwater pond and a small stream. In addition to serving as a gathering space for everyday use, the garden is intended to accommodate concerts and other special events. The garden plan is focused on a classical pavilion/stage situated at the edge of the existing pond, at the head of an ellipse of open lawn. Both the lawn and pond are framed by a series of naturalistic gardens which also serve to catch and filter storm runoff. CONCORDIA COLLEGE - MASTER PLAN When Concordia purchased 40 acres - the West Campus - adjacent to their existing campus, it was time to design a plan to knit the two campuses together and plan for growth in enrollment and facilities. The new Master Plan fulfills the goal to invest in a distinctive and appealing campus that enhances recruitment, retention and the learning/living environment while connecting us to the community. ROANOKE COLLEGE - OLIN SCULPTURE GARDEN The Olin courtyard had deteriorated to the point where it was hard to maintain and too littered with multiple planters and level changes to accomodate large outdoor events. The new design, currently being constructed, will provide an expansive terrace for outdoor events, lawns and naturalized plantings for the display of art sculptures and a terraced amphitheater for special productions and everyday teaching. CHATHAM HALL - CAMPUS MASTER PLAN The recent success of the Capital Campaign and the boldness of the 2010 - 2015 Strategic Plan will continue to transform Chatham Hall. Most importantly, these two initiatives have allowed the school to develop a Campus Master Plan that will create a physical framework for the future growth and improvement of the school. GUILFORD COLLEGE - GROUNDS MAINTENANCE PLAN Guilford College’s historic, tree-covered campus is one of the institution’s great strengths. Guilford recognized this and asked Van Yahres Associates to help them refine their grounds maintenance operations and upgrade the overall quality of the campus. The Grounds Maintenance Plan gave the College a blueprint to improve the beauty and ecological health of the campus and to increase the operational efficiency of the College’s grounds crews.
